Update page metadata on Squarespace
Last updated
Before you start
Have your page URL and reviewed metadata ready, plus permission to edit your Squarespace site. Use a computer for these steps. The main walkthrough covers a regular page; homepage settings are explained separately below.
Your SEO title can appear in the browser tab and search results. The description summarizes the page for search engines. You do not need to change the heading visitors see on the page.
1. Copy the reviewed text from Onça
In Site Audit, find the page by its URL. Review the Title and Meta description fields. Use Copy beneath each field when ready to paste. These changes do not update your live Squarespace site.
2. Open the page’s SEO settings
- Sign in to Squarespace and open the Pages panel.
- Find the page that matches your URL. Hover over its name and click the gear icon.
- Open the SEO tab.
- Paste your title into SEO Title and your summary into SEO Description.
- Check the preview, then click Save. Saving page settings applies the changes.
Keep the URL unchanged for a metadata-only update. If the preview adds your site name automatically, check that your title does not repeat it.
For a blog post, open the blog page, find the post, and open its settings instead. Edit the SEO fields for that post, not the blog landing page.

Updating the homepage?
The homepage uses site-level search settings. In Squarespace 7.1, open SEO/AI Visibility, then SEO Settings. In 7.0, open SEO appearance. Under Search Appearance, choose Home.
Update the SEO site description and review the SEO Title Format for your homepage title. The format may contain variables such as %s for your site name. Check the preview before saving. Leave the Pages and Items formats unchanged when only updating your homepage.
Follow Squarespace’s title format guide if the title differs from what you expect.
3. Check the live page
Open the public URL in a private browser window and check the tab title. To check both values directly, right-click, choose View Page Source, and search for <title and name="description". Compare the text with your changes.
If the old values remain, confirm that you saved the correct page. If SEO Title is missing, check whether you are editing the homepage. Search engines may take time to recrawl and may choose different text, so check the live page rather than waiting for the search snippet.
